Tensions Erupt Between Council and Mayor’s Office in Wake of Warehouse District Mass Shootings On the one hand it is not good that City Council and the mayor seem to be unable to work together to solve an obvious and urgent issue like gun violence. On the other hand it is good that this is not the same bought and paid for council that Frank Jackson always had.

1 killed, 2 hurt in separate Downtown Cleveland shootings Is a follow up to the article above. These shootings occurred  late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Two of the shootings were on E. 9th and the other one was in the flats. Are we going to start becoming numb to shootings in Cleveland because they occur so frequently? And are people going to start avoiding downtown?

During last Tuesday’s second discussion of the project , members repeatedly balked at buying more land than is required for the jail, buying land that is undevelopable and buying the land before funding is secured. Right now it appears that Ronayne doesn’t have the votes to pass his plan.

The company is SiFi Networks Cleveland LLC and is based in New Jersey. Can they deliver?  So far they have started projects in 40 other cities but none are completed yet because of delays. They are also facing numerous lawsuits from subcontractors. By the way, Mayor Justin Bibb supports their bid.

Aug. 8 math works in favor of motivated anti – Issue 1 voters to amplify their voice. Vote now and make a difference The motivated anti – issue 1 voters are you and many others. Fascist Frank LaRose ( more on him below ) believes that a low turnout like last August could mean that only 320,000 votes could win the election. And you and 700,000 others signed the abortion access constitutional amendment petition.

Author of book on Ohio Constitution warns against Issue 1 changing 111 years of Ohio voter power Is a scholarly and interesting take on why you should not attempt to change a constitution on a whim and might provide you with talking points should you encounter an undecided voter. The basic premise is that major changes should not be attempted without careful consideration and input from the people affected by the change.

Secretary of State Frank LaRose announces long awaited U.S. Senate bid Fascist Frank believes that he is the Republican chosen one to finally slay Sherrod Brown. But is he? He speaks coherently and hasn’t really thrown xenophobic racist red meat to the base. Bernie Moreno on the other hand has been a Trump stooge for years. And the primary winner will be whoever Trump endorses.

After Householder and Borges Sentences, What  – or Who – Comes Next? The good news is that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio has repeatedly said that the investigations are ongoing. You’ll have to scroll down a bit to the Who’s Next section to see what FirstEnergy executives might next be indicted.

Heat, flooding and smoke: The U.S. in the midst of a summer of extremes Catastrophic climate events have affected almost every region in North America this summer. And they are completely consistent with what scientists have been predicting for years. Wildfires, catastrophic flooding and extreme heat are the new norms of summer. And coming soon is hurricane season with the water temperature off Miami Beach now at 90 degrees.

Trump is notified he’s a target of the US criminal probe into efforts to overturn the 2020 election Which means an indictment is likely. It would be his third in the last few months and maybe the most serious. Imagine the spectacle next year when, in the middle of a presidential campaign Trump is on trial for multiple serious criminal charges.

Doubts and Questions About Biden Will Only Grow The mission in 2020 was to defeat Trump at all costs and it might be again in 2024. But never has an incumbent president sought re – election with favorability ratings as low as Biden’s. The polling is not soft, it’s terrible, Concerns about age and mental sharpness are among all voter groups. And in the next 16 months he’s not going to get any younger.

Progressives in an unlikely position as Republicans escalate attacks on the FBI The FBI for many decades has been the chief secret police entity against the left and progressives. The most recent example being the illegal detention of people protesting George Floyd’s murder. On the other hand there is absolutely no way we can support the fascist Republicans on any issue.
Black Lives Matter

An unarmed Black man was attacked by a police K – 9 dog despite surrendering with his hands in the air An Ohio State Trooper was on the scene and repeatedly urged the Circleville police officers not to release the dog, but the racist Circleville cops couldn’t resist. The stated reason for the pullover was a missing mud flap on one of the truck’s tires. The actual reason was most likely driving while Black. Thankfully there is video of the entire incident.

More Than 60 Jayland Walker Protestors Were Arrested in Akron Last Year. Just 8% of Those Cases Ended in Guilty Verdicts Which is an extremely low conviction rate for any crime. It seems that the Akron police reached a point where they decided to make mass arrests regardless of if they suspected a crime was being committed. That decision may come back to haunt them since many of those acquitted are filing federal lawsuits.

Black Lives Matter marks its 10th anniversary with new calls for justice Hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman. It was the subsequent acquittal of Zimmerman that sparked the birth of the BLM movement. It’s also hard to believe that the issues that caused the birth of the movement sadly still exist today.

Black lawmakers say Alabama GOP proposed new congressional map insults Supreme Court You may recall that the Supreme Court ruled that Alabama must create a second majority Black district and that they initially used racial gerrymandering when they only created one. As the fascist Republicans are inclined to do, they ignored the court order and instead increased the number of Black voters in the original district.
Immigration

Biden Deportation Tracker Since we were on vacation last week, it’s now likely been two weeks since you last checked in. And as you might guess the number has increased dramatically since then.
Texas trooper alleges inhumane treatment of migrants by state officials along the southern border The trooper claimed that Texas officials have received directions to withhold water from migrants and to push them back into the Rio Grande river. They have also set up razor wire fences at the border. Let’s hope this extremely inhumane treatment is investigated and stopped.
But the good news in the Gallup poll is that 68% of Americans generally support immigration. And not a shock that it breaks down on party lines. 73% of the xenophobic racist Republican Party wants to decrease immigration but just 18% of Democrats feel the same way.

Civil rights groups sue Florida over its new immigration law that supports DeSantis. migrant flights Numerous national and Floridian civil rights organizations have filed the suit in federal court which basically states that a state cannot override federal immigration law. Seems like a no – brainer but the crucial variable is which federal judge hears the case – a fascist Trump appointee or someone who actually looks at law and precedent.
