Hope to See You Tomorrow

CCPC Summer Solstice Outdoor Celebration Wednesday, June 21 from 6 to 8 pm @ Cumberland Park Pavilion, 1740 Cumberland Rd. Cleveland Heights 44118. With summer arriving it’s time to get outdoors and spend some quality time with your fellow progressive activists! CCPC will provide food and drinks but if you would like to bring something to share that would be great. The pavilion has picnic tables but if you’d prefer, bring your most comfortable lawn chair. Aside from the usual short speeches by candidates and elected officials this meeting has no political agenda. The agenda is to have fun and enjoy the longest day of the year!

Please Turn In Your Petitions ASAP

If you still have an abortion access constitutional amendment petition please turn it in as soon as possible to the location where you picked it up. It takes about a week to validate each petition and all of them must be turned in to Columbus by July 5 in order for the issue to be on the ballot in November. Let’s hope and pray that we have enough signatures and that Ohio voters say no on August 8!

Only 30 % of fans at Browns Home Games Live in Cuyahoga County, Data Shows And only 15% live in Cleveland. But it is only the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County tax dollars that finance stadium construction projects. Clevelanders always get taxed twice because they also pay county taxes. How is that fair? How about a tax on each ticket sold to finance these projects so that those who actually go to games, wherever they live, pay their fair share.

Executive Ronayne proposes extending Cuyahoga County sales tax to pay for new jail, without voter approval Ronayne submitted legislation last week to County Council which would extend the tax for forty years beyond its current expiration date in 2027. While campaigning last year he promised not to extend the tax without voter approval. Do you approve without your approval?

Cuyahoga County bracing for costly August election with high voter turnout, state assures it will reimburse Reimburse? Don’t you think that money should have been provided up front. Part of the problem is that no one knows exactly what the turnout will be because there has been no statewide election in Ohio in August since 1926. Bottom line is please try to vote by mail because staffing at polling locations is uncertain and some may be changed.

No word from UH as the fate of historic 115th Street hangs in the balance  E. 115th St. was once a beautiful residential area in University Circle. But it seems that many houses owned by University Hospital have been abandoned and are deteriorating. Utility shut off notices have been on the doors for months and still no word from UH on what they are going to do.
State

Yes, Ohio is still the ” heart of it all ” in political extremism And of course it’s all right – wing extremism. Unconstitutionally gerrymandered districts have yielded super majorities in the house and the senate which has given them a sense of being almost dictatorial rulers. Not helping matters is their desire to compete with other states to see who is the most extreme.

The law banning August election‘s was passed by state lawmakers in the Ohio General Assembly. So is Fascist Frank suggesting that any law passed by the General Assembly doesn’t apply to themselves or just certain laws that may or may not benefit their fascist agenda?

Ohio Chamber of Commerce Won’t Discuss Its Allies in Effort to Lock Down State Constitution They include abortion foes, gun – rights groups, an election denier and the gerrymandered legislature. The Ohio Chamber of Commerce is supposed to be working to attract jobs to Ohio but they don’t seem to be considering the fact that a third of all job seekers nationwide won’t even consider living in a state with severe abortion restrictions.
Why Ohio is pushing away millions of dollars in solar energy development Solar energy developers are willing and able to spend millions of dollars investing in Ohio. And in rural areas many farmers are willing and able to go solar. But under Ohio law the county government can outlaw any solar development in their county even if the property owner is good with it.

Trump Supporters’ Violent Rhetoric in His Defense Disturbs Experts Experts on political violence warn that attacks against people or institutions become more likely when elected officials or prominent media figures are able to issue threats or calls for violence with impunity, Exhibit A of course is January 6.

Democratic fears grow over third – party candidates The real problem for the Democratic Party establishment isn’t the existence of third party candidates. It’s the existence of polls showing that about 70% of all voters don’t want Biden to run. Progressive activist and former Bernie Sanders surrogate Cornel West recently entered the race. Wouldn’t he be a great president? But wouldn’t it be really sad if he got Trump elected instead.

RFK Jr’s success leaves progressive pining for competitive primary Progressive discontent with Biden continues to grow as he positions himself as a centrist as he seeks re – election. Progressives are not claiming Kennedy for themselves. But it’s more like what if there was someone inspirational like Bernie willing and able to challenge Biden?

DeSantis supporters welcome tourists and children with Nazi flags at the entrance to Disney World And it was clear that they were Fascist DeSantis supporters because they displayed it along with their Nazi flags. One has to wonder how warped a governor must be to intentionally go after the biggest economic generator of revenue in his state.
Black Lives Matter

Jayland Walker’s family sues Akron police over fatal shooting, seeking at least $45 million  ‘ one million for each bullet ‘ Although it is a nice touch. most notable in the suit is not the one million for each bullet. It’s the ” culture of violence and racism  ” that’s cited. We wish Jayland’s family good luck in this pursuit.

DOJ probe into Minneapolis police finds racial discrimination and excessive force Deja vu from our own Cleveland experience with Tamir Rice’s killing. And it’s the same deja vu more recently experienced in Ferguson, Baltimore and Louisville. George Floyd’s killing was not an isolated incident but rather a pattern – or – practice that sadly has continued since his death in 2020.

Ajike Owens’ white racist neighbor would frequently yell racial slurs at her kids when they were playing in the yard. When she eventually went to the door to confront the neighbor she was shot. The neighbor is now trying to use  the ” stand your ground ” defense to get away with the murder.

Cleveland’s First Black – Owned Recording Studio Could Become a City Landmark The Boddie Recording Company helped shape Cleveland’s music scene for more than two decades, recording albums by local artists who might not have gone onto fame but whose work was important right here in Cleveland
Immigration

DACA uncertainty creates a ‘ breeding ground ‘ for misinformation Online misinformation has existed since DACA’s beginning. But with the program back in court again advocates are fighting against a new wave of false information. Some of it is from misinformed but well intentioned people. But most of it is from right wingers seeking to scam or get DACA  recipients into trouble.

Biden officials declined to offer legal status to hundreds of thousands of migrants amid border concerns About 400,000 migrants would have been eligible to safely live and work in the U.S. legally under a program known as Temporary Protected Status ( TPS ), But it was not offered to them because Biden does not want a spike in immigration numbers as he seeks re – election.

Immigrants Create More Jobs Than They Take Argues that immigrants are not here for America’s charity. They’re far more likely to start a business and employ other workers than native born Americans. And when they join a local economy they also create a demand for local services that they are in need of.

Texas governor buses first group of migrants to Los Angeles Texas Governor Greg Abbott could not allow himself to be out done by his fascist counterpart in Florida. This may be good news for the migrants on the bus since they’re probably better off in Los Angeles than they would have been in Texas.
