Two Studies Lean Towards Recommendation for Cleveland to Close the Burke Lakefront Airport Which means it is going to close. Studies are always the first step for municipalities undertaking a big project. And closing Burke Lakefront Airport and using that valuable property for Lakefront development is probably in the city’s best interest. Imagine what the lakefront could look like in 10 years if the Browns go to Brook Park and Burke is developed as well. If that happens let’s hope there’s no major  tax abatement or TIF’s.

Cleveland City Council grills city finance director on $400 K IRS penalty, delayed contractor payout The payment, triggered by the city earning too much interest on unused tax – free bonds from 2019, highlighted what several council members called deeper issues with the city’s delays in paying bills on contracts funded by bond money. Some council members said they have waited for years to pay contractors for projects in their wards. The City Finance Director intends to review the process for paying contractors.

Crime is down 13% this summer, but Cleveland mayor says there’s still work to be done Bibb attributes the city’s crime reduction to a multi – pronged plan to address high crime rates in recent summers, including the city’s $10 million safety fund, which provides grants to grassroots organizations already doing violence prevention throughout the city. He also said the partnership with the Ohio State Patrol to assist with traffic violations has helped.

Cleveland Public Power proposes first rate hike in 40 years Cleveland Public Power  is proposing its first rate increase in 40 years. The proposed rate hike, which comes after a study on the city – owned electric suppliers finances, could mean customers will pay 25% more by 2026. The increases are to accommodate increased debt repayments, costs of supplies, wage increases and supply change issues in recent years. This is not good news for Cleveland Public Power’s low – income customers.

Ohio Supreme Court Largely Upholds Misleading  Ballot Language for Redistricting Amendment Which is not a surprise since this Ohio Supreme Court is not an actual court that does judicial review and looks at precedent before making decisions. This court is controlled by a 4 – 3 margin of Republican MAGA extremist’s who ignore precedent and make thing’s up to justify their political agenda. The decision underscores the need to get Democratic Justice’s Michael Donnely and Melody Stewart reelected and Lisa Forbes elected to tilt the court back to sanity with a 4 – 3 Democratic majority.

Ohio Republican Politicians Desperately Trying to Dupe Voters Over Anti – Gerrymandering From muddying the waters in the ballot language to a full blown press to confuse the voters, the Ohio Republican Party is desperately trying to retain the crooked gerrymandering system they have in place. The reality is that anyone who understands the current gerrymandering system knows that it needs to be changed. And so like most issues the Republicans cannot campaign truthfully.

LaRose wants action on possible voter fraud cases. County prosecutors say they haven’t for a reason Bet you can guess the reason, County prosecutors need actual evidence to prosecute any case. And most of the cases Fascist Frank forwarded to the prosecutor’s lack even minimal evidence, The actual number of cases he referred was 597 since 2019, which wouldn’t even come close to tilting a statewide election where millions usually vote. Fascist Frank’s publicity stunt of course is designed to plant the illusion that voter fraud is rampant.

In an Unprecedented Move Ohio is Funding the Construction of Private Religious Schools Is another in the long series of WTF articles about what the Ohio General Assembly is doing. While many states have enacted sweeping voucher programs that give parents taxpayer money to spend on private school tuition for their kids, Ohio is the first state ever to pay for construction costs of those schools. The article states that most of the schools have been Catholic. It seems Ohio wants to be the number one Christian Nationalist state in the nation.
National

Vance, Walz face potential game – changing moment with VP debate While most observers note vice presidential debates haven’t moved the needle much in the past, they say tonight’s debate could be different. Polls show a highly competitive race between Harris and Trump in the final stretch, and any big misstep or knockout blow by one of the vice presidential contenders could change the game. So if Vance delivers his usual lunatic rhetoric, Walz should easily be able to deliver the knockout blow.

Biden’s national security team has no imminent plans to present an updated ceasefire proposal Remember during the Democratic National Convention when reports were that a ceasefire agreement was close. We wondered then if that was just a smokescreen to take attention away from the protester’s outside of the convention. Here’s a ceasefire proposal from the U.S. that most of you would like and would work. Israel, if you do not make a ceasefire happen immediately the U.S. will stop giving you any military aid. What do you think?
America sort of likes Kamala Harris  – and that might just be enough The 2024 White House race remains too close to call, but Vice President Kamala Harris’ momentum is evident when you look just a little past the horse race. Last week Harris’ favorability rating emerged above water for the first time since shortly after President Biden took office. The good news is this shows her surging. The bad news is Hillary Clinton had a favorability rating much higher than Trump’s in 2016 but she still lost.

Harris accepts invitation for second potential debate in October Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted an invitation to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump. The potential debate would take place on October 23 and be hosted by CNN. So far Trump has declined the invitation stating ” we just don’t think it’s necessary ” and ” it’s too late ” since early voting will already be underway. Of course his real fear is that Kamala Harris will dominate him as she did in the first debate.

Black Lives Matter

Sen. Raphael Warnock Blasts Mark Robinson Over Alleged Racists Posts: He’s ‘ White Supremacy in Blackface.’ Mark Robinson, who is black, is currently the North Carolina lieutenant governor and is the Republican candidate for governor this year. He stated on the ” Nude Africa ” poronography website that he would support a return tp slavery and called himself a ” Black Nazi.” Many of his campaign staff have resigned over this incident ( see below ). And of course Donald Trump supports him.

Several Mark Robinson campaign staffers quit as fallout over online posts continues Several top staffers of Mark Robinson’s campaign for governor have quit their posts, marking more fallout from a CNN report outlining evidence that he made disturbing posts on a pornography website’s message board. And these are not low level staffers. They are the campaign manager, the deputy campaign manager, a senior advisor and the finance director. And as we mentioned above Donald Trump of course still supports him.

Student scratched racial slur into another body, Gettysburg College administration says What the college confirmed was that a racial slur was carved into the only Black member of the swim team at an ” informal gathering at an on – campus residence.” The slur was carved by a person the Black student believed was his friend. The college then suspended both students before the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities commenced an investigation. One has to wonder why the Black victim was also suspended?

New Study Shows Black Mothers Are More Likely Than Others To Receive Unnecessary C – Sections The study published in August gathered information from nearly 1 million births at 68 hospitals and found that Black mothers were 25% more likely to deliver by C – section than white mothers. The study also showed that Black doctors were less likely than white doctors to do C – sections on Black mothers. The article concludes that medical bias is the basis for these results.
Immigration

Kamala Harris’ tough – on – migration pitch at the border points to a shifting national mood Kamala Harris highlighted her tough – on – migration stance during her long anticipated trip to the border last Friday, aiming to reverse a political vulnerability and rebut Donald Trump’s core campaign message that Democrats are soft on immigration enforcement. And of course she once again highlighted herself as the tough prosecutor who took on international gangs and organized crime as Attorney General in California.

Springfield group files criminal charges against Trump, Vance for false rumors about Haitians The Haitian Bridge Alliance is using a state law that allows private citizens to file the criminal charges against the top of the Republican ticket. Their Cleveland – based lawyer Subodh Chandra said Trump and Vance have triggered false alarms, disruption of public services and other harassment by sharing unfounded, racist rumors about Haitian Refugees eating pets.

Immigrants Are Making Ohio Great. Let’s Talk About That Details some interesting facts about Immigrants in Ohio. With nearly 600,000 immigrants calling Ohio home, 5% of the state is foreign – born. Immigrants in Ohio pay about $7 billion a year in taxes and have a spending power of $18.6 billion, stimulating their local economies. Immigrants in Ohio are also helping create new jobs, with an estimated 37,000 immigrant entrepreneurs who have started businesses in the state. It’s not likely Trump will mention this if he comes to Springfield.

An aging Ohio needs all the immigrants it can get The bottom line with declining population is that there are fewer people paying income, property and sales tax. Which means less money for the government to provide services. What actually happened in Springfield should be a model for the rest of the state. The Haitians in Springfield are assembling car engines at Honda, running vegetable packing machines at Dole and loading boxes at distribution centers. They are paying taxes on their wages and spending money in the community.
