Euclid Beach residents have plans to save mobile homes. Western Reserve Land Conservancy says no. The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland says it has found a federal program that it hopes can help keep the mobile home park from closing but the WRLC is still firm in its plans to close it. Let’s hope the pressure continues until some justice is found for the residents.

State
This was expected to happen last week but was most likely delayed because the fascist Republicans didn’t have the votes. Today and tomorrow are crucial because if it doesn’t pass by May 10 it cannot be on the ballot in August. Fingers crossed!
‘ It’s an atrocious bill.’ Students and Professors rally against the massive Ohio higher education bill Senate Bill 83 actually is better known as the ” Higher Education Destruction Bill.” It would ban mandatory diversity training, prohibit university staff from striking and require American history courses to be taught with a right wing bias.
‘Do-it-yourself terrorism’: Neo-Nazi accused of firebombing Geauga County Church highlights rise in white supremacist activity in OhioThe spike in white supremacist activity in Ohio mirrors the national trend. The next time you’re driving on an interstate in rural Ohio think about who might really be out there in the small towns and farms.
Initiative to legalize recreational marijuana could be on November’s ballot Ohio lawmakers have until tomorrow to pass the law, but that is unlikely. So if 124,000 valid signatures are gathered by July 5 it will be on the ballot in November. The signature number is lower because this is an initiative, not a constitutional amendment like the abortion access issue is.
National
Fast approaching debt deadline jolts a flat – footed Congress The Treasury Secretary has issued a warning of an economically perilous default as soon as June 1. And the House and the Senate are only simultaneously scheduled to be in session for just two weeks this month. The Republicans have played this game of chicken before but never with a lunatic as extreme as Kevin McCarthy running the House.
US Supreme Court to Consider Curbing Authority of Federal Regulatory Agencies Again the court’s majority may overturn decades of precedent to achieve their fascist partisan agenda. This time it’s gutting the power of environmental, consumer – protection and financial – watchdog agencies.
Four Proud Boys Members found guilty of seditious conspiracy Including their longtime leader Enrique Tarrio who wasn’t even in Washington on January 6. Let’s hope these fascist neo – nazi’s spend a very long time in prison.
Scientists Horrified as Sea Surface Temperatures Spike Off the Charts The record breaking high sea surface temperatures have suddenly occurred in the past month and climate change scientists aren’t sure why. Long term climate change predictions are scary enough but since this wasn’t predicted it’s even more scary.
The all-time most influential political band finally makes it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Before clicking the link you’re probably trying to guess who it is. Hint #1: They played in Cleveland on July 18, 2016 right before CCPC’s very first event ever. That event was the End Poverty Now March during the Republican National Convention. Hint #2: Rage against Trump and the Republicans was expressed at the concert. CCPC was honored to have some of the band members walk with us during the march!
Black Lives Matter
Cleveland goes public with plans to address racism as a public health crisis It is important to remember that it has been nearly three years since Cleveland City Council recognized this public health crisis. At least now the coalition tasked to address the issue is beginning to have community forums

As Biden Runs Again, Black Voters’ Frustration Bubbles Many of the things Biden promised Black voters have failed or stalled including federal protections against restrictive voting laws, student loan debt relief and criminal justice and police accountability reform. How enthusiastic will the Democrats’ most important block of voters be in 2024?
Immigration
U.S. sending 1,500 active – duty troops to southern border amid migration spike The service members will be deployed for 90 days and thankfully will not be tasked with any law enforcement duties. They will have supporting tasks with the immigration authorities already there.
The US, Mexico agree on tighter immigration policies at the border . Under the agreement Mexico will continue to accept migrants who are turned away at the US border. But the US will accept up to 100,000 migrants who already have family here.
‘ High wire act ‘ US Congress gears up for immigration reform as Title 42 ends What’s emerging is a new push for bipartisan reform. This may not be good considering what the xenophobic racist Republicans are likely to want in any bill. Fingers crossed that Biden doesn’t agree to something horrible
Afghan neighbors in Cleveland and across the U.S. need Congress to enact a path to citizenship The Greater Cleveland Afghan community numbered about 30 families before the U.S. withdrawal in 2021. Now it numbers over 1000 families. And there is still no pathway to citizenship for these people who fled a near certain horrible death if they had stayed.
Florida GOP passes sweeping anti – immigration bill that gives DeSantis $12 million for migrant transport It is probably not a coincidence that this bill passed just a few weeks before DeSantis is expected to announce a run for president. It is very sad that cruel and intimidating treatment of migrants is a winning issue with the Republican base.
