Prominent Democrats mull challenging Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb in 2025 One of the prominent names mentioned in this speculative piece is a name you might recognize, Nina Turner. Nina is quoted as saying that ” she has been asked to run,” which is what a lot of politicians say to rationalize why they are running. Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin said ” he is keeping all options on the table. ” But the question is, considering the huge war chest Justin Bibb has already amassed, could either of them beat him?

‘ Don’t get caught up in the drama ‘: City looking for nine people to join Community Police Commission The City of Cleveland is looking for nine people to join the Community Police Commission, which oversees police discipline and policy. They will replace six commissioners whose term is up and three woh resigned.  If you are a Cleveland resident who won’t get caught up in the drama of the previous resignations and are interested please click here Applications are due Friday.

Where do Browns fans want their team to play? What one Cleveland City Council members survey finds. Congratulations to Cleveland Ward 13 City Councilman Kris Harsh for this well thought out publicity stunt, and to Ward 11 City Councilman Danny Kelly who assisted him. They conducted a completely unscientific poll outside of the Browns two preseason games and found that 60% wanted the Browns to stay in Cleveland on the lakefront. Wonder if they would have called the media if their ” poll ” went the other way.

10 Ways Cleveland’s New ‘ Smart Code ‘ Will Greatly Change the City’s Feel in Decades to Come The new ‘ Smart Code ‘ has a lot of good featuresHighlights include most residential buildings having space for outdoor amenities, only 20% of a building can be ” dead space, ” at least half a building’s ground floor windows have to be transparent and it will be illegal to build parking in between the building and the street and the front of buildings can’t be too far back from the street.

First Energy’s chief ethics officer knew about $4.3 million payment the company said was a bribe Two top lawyers at First Energy, plus the company’s most senior accountant, knew about and helped process a $4.3 million payment that the company later said was a bribe to a top state regulator, according to a newly unearthed memorandum and deposition. The memo was released by the Ohio Consumers Counsel, which has more documents that could be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Does Kamala Harris have a chance in Ohio? Democrats beef up staffing, college presence The Ohio Democratic Party now has more staffers than at any point since 2012 when Barack Obama won the state. For Ohio to turn completely blue three things would have to happen. They maximize base turnout in Ohio’s six largest urban counties, win the suburban battleground counties and cut down the Republicans’ margin of victory in the rural counties.

Families still forced to choose between food and other necessities, Ohio study says The Ohio Association of Food Banks conducted a study called Huger in Ohio 2024. And found that ” After enduring over a year of above average inflation and rising costs for food and other essentials, paired with the expiration of pandemic era SNAP benefits, Ohioans are visiting Ohio’s food bank networks at record paces.” And of course no help is likely from the General Assembly.

The Browns want Ohio taxpayers to help pay for an NFL stadium. So do teams in Cincinnatti Anybody surprised by this? Paycor stadium, the home of the Cincinnati Bengals is as old as the Browns stadium and the Bengals owners are seeking renovations. At least the Bengals are not asking taxpayers to pay for a new domed stadium. So of course the General Assembly is not going to fund one team and not the other. By the way, there are six other professional sports teams in Ohio who will also need renovations at some point.

Kamala Harris surges ahead of Donald Trump in the latest poll taken after the DNC The latest poll shows Democrat Kamala Harris surging ahead of Republican Donald Trump 48% to 43%. The findings reflect an eight – point turnaround in the presidential race since late June when Trump had led President Joe Biden by nearly four points. The shift was fueled by gains in some key demographic groups important to Democrats including Ispanic and Black voters and young people.

Supreme Court rebuffs Biden administration plea to restore multi billion – dollar student debt plan The Supreme Court last week kept on hold the latest multibillion – dollar plan from the Biden administration that would have lowered payments for millions of borrowers, while lawsuits make their way through the lower courts. The plan would reduce income based repayments of a borrower’s discretionary income and wouldn’t require borrowers to make payments if they earn less than 225% of the federal poverty line.

Are Trump and Harris Debating or What? Isn’t it great watching Trump squirm? He agreed to the June and September debates when Biden was the candidate. And in June he got from Biden exactly what he hoped for. Now he either has to debate the lightning quick Kamala Harris or back out of the debate and look like a coward. Making him squirm even more is that Kamala wants an open mic which means she can immediately call out his lies. And Trump is now using this as an excuse to back out of the debate scheduled for one week from tonight.

GOP strategist cautions Trump on joining forces with RFK Jr: ‘ He’s kind of a looney tune ‘ Is actually a humorous piece as you can probably tell by the title. The amazing thing is the Republican strategist actually gave this interview with a straight face. The first question is, and Trump is not a ‘ looney tune? ‘ Even more humorous is the strategists’ claim that RFK Jr would hurt Trump because he is anti – vaccine and supports conspiracy theories. Isn’t that exactly what most Trump supporters believe and do?

Black Lives Matter

‘ That cop killed my son: ‘ Residents share their thoughts on police chases in Cleveland Residents of Cleveland have been rightfully angry about high speed police chases that can come any time and put innocent bystanders at risk. Credit should be given to the Community Police Commission for at least listening to these concerns at a community forum last week. The Community Police Commission is currently reading through and making changes to the Cleveland police pursuit policy.

Ohio School – to – Prison Pipeline Bolstered by ‘ Exclusionary Discipline, ‘ Absenteeism ” Student disconnection ” spurred on by mental health factors, disproportionate discipline and a leck of in school support system plays its part in driving Ohio’s absentee Black student absentee rate, according to a new report issued by our friends at Policy Matters Ohio. That absenteeism, and the contributing factors of it can create an entry point to the school –  to – prison pipeline according to the report.

10 Things Donald Trump didn’t do for Black People Is a compilation of the top ten lies that Trump has been telling during the campaign about what he has done to help Black people. The top three are Trump did more for Black people than Abraham Lincoln, immigrants are stealing all of the ” Black jobs ” so mass deportations will help Black people and he was the only president who actually reformed the police. If you want to laugh even harder please click the link to see the other seven.

University of Kentucky to disband diversity office after GOP lawmakers pushed anti – DEI legislation The University of Kentucky, which is not known to be a bastion of progressivism, has decided to disband its office promoting diversity and inclusion in response to questions from Kentucky state legislators that its focus had stifled political discussion. And of course what the lawmakers are really referring to is stifling a political discussion by Republicans of the benefits of racism and segregation. And the University of Kentucky caved.
Immigration

Judge blocks Biden administration from granting legal status to immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens This is very sad news. A federal judge in Texas last week temporarily blocked the Biden administration from granting legal status to unauthorized immigrants married to American citizens, granting a request from 16 Republican – led states who challenged the new policy. Trump appointed District Court Judge J. Campbell Barker made his order valid for 14 days but suggested he could extend it. Which of course he will.

DHS watchdog warns of ” urgent issue ” after immigration officials allegedly lose track of unaccompanied children The number of children that immigration officials lost track of is about 32,000. By law, the Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for unaccompanied migrant children, so after they are initially taken into custody by U.S. authorities, it is ICE’s role to ” to insure their timely and safe transfer ” to HHS. which then often places them in shelters. And it seems they lost 32,000 kids. WTF!

Trump says he will make ‘ provisions ‘ for mixed – status families but doesn’t rule out separations with mass deportations First of all, Trump said last week that the billions of dollars that it would cost to do the mass deportations is justified because immigrants are costing us more than that. But of course as we have documented in this space, immigrants actually enhance our economy. And do you really believe he would even consider ‘ provisions.’

What Project 2025 Says About Immigration The immigration agenda in Project 2025 is what you might expect. A carefully considered wish list for remaking federal immigration policy to suit the dreams of the most hawkish restrictionists. With a clear plan to restrict legal immigration of all kinds, while laying the foundations for a potential campaign of mass deportation. However there isn’t a detailed plan of how the government would conduct a campaign of mass deportation, arresting, detaining and deporting millions of people.
