Cuyahoga executive, council spar over proposed Garfield Heights jail site Cuyahoga County Council President Pernel Jones Jr. expressed ” sticker shock ” at the price. Then Ronayne got defensive and suggested Jones’ opposition was really because the jail would be in his district. Best quote in the article though is from County Councilman Scott Tuma ” Chris, I think the honeymoon is over.”
Guardians attendance has increased by almost 200,000 despite the team not having a winning record Obviously it must be because of the $285 million renovation that our tax dollars funded. Except it’s not because construction on the renovation hasn’t even started yet. Renovations and a nice looking stadium have nothing to do with attendance. Remember the Cavs attendance plummeted right after the Q renovations were completed
After Electrical Fire at East Cleveland Apartment Displaces Hundreds, Tenants Put Blame on Buildings Owners The East Cleveland Fire Department has confirmed that the fire began when electrical maintenance was botched. 300 Terrace Tower tenants were evacuated and are now being housed in shelters. But where will they eventually end up?
Greater Cleveland’s Hispanic and Asian populations are on the rise Overall population in Greater Cleveland has decreased since 2010. But the good news is that our region is becoming more diverse. Since 2010 the number of Hispanics grew 88% to 138,400. And the number of Asians grew 77% to 55,500

Op – Ed: Ohioans Need to Vote No on Issue 1, and Tell Everyone They Know to Do the Same Is an excellent piece by CCPC member Ross DiBello. What Ross describes is Relational Organizing. All you need to do it is your phone. It’s simple. Call all of your contacts, explain Issue 1 and urge them to vote no on August 8. If you have conservative in – laws in your phone it may be best to skip them.
Final Ohio Education Budget Expands Vouchers, Limits Board of Ed Powers The expansion of vouchers to every student in Ohio is bad enough. But limiting the power of locally elected school boards is what you might expect from the fascists who now control the General Assembly. Remember when the Republicans were all about less government and more local control.
Ohio’s Congressional Redistricting Case Moves Back to State Supreme Court But the question is does last year’s court ruling that the districts are unconstitutional stay in effect or does the new Republican leaning court make the determination. Either way it probably doesn’t matter because the Redistricting Commision will likely again make unconstitutional districts and the new Ohio Supreme Court will likely back them.
Ohio to seek work requirements again for Medicaid enrollees This was snuck into the budget signed last week by Mike DeWine. The bill requires Ohio to apply to the federal government to allow a work requirement of at least 20 hours a week for people under 55 to be eligible for Medicaid. The latest chapter in th Republican’s War on the Poor

Koch network raises more than $70 million, launches new anti – Trump ads in early voting states Even the Koch brothers realize that fascism and the instability Trump brings is bad for their business. They have promised to eventually back one candidate in the Republican Primary to defeat Trump and it should be interesting to see who they chose. Wonder if Trump will claim that the Koch’s are part of the ” Deep State.”
Why Are We Letting Red State ” Welfare Oligarchs ” Mooch Off Blue States Describes how Blue States consistently pay far more money in federal taxes than they receive from the federal government. The reverse is true for Red States who pay far less money in federal taxes than they receive from the federal government.
Biden seeks new path to providing millions in student debt relief, rejecting Supreme Court setback The new plan is to invoke The Higher Education Act to provide debt relief for 40 million Americans, Although it will take about a year to implement there will be no penalty for those who miss payments while waiting for the relief to become official
Yes, it;s hot. But this could be the coolest summers of the rest of your life Is this week’s ominous climate change article. July 4 was the hottest day on earth ever recorded and the record is likely to be broken again and again within short periods of time this summer. This year’s July 4 could have been more accurately called Independence From a Temperate Climate Day. But at least the smoke from the Canadian wildfires hasn’t returned. Yet.
Black Lives Matter
The high court’s ruling that race can no longer be used in college admissions has zero to do with justice or equity Justice and Equity are the buzzwords that fascist Republicans have been using to praise the Supreme Court’s decision to end affirmative action.Their perverted reverse logic is that white people have been discriminated against when Black people have been admitted ahead of them. Which is red meat to their racist base.
Aftermath of Supreme Court session, and the horrors to come Describes the ramifications of the decisions made on affirmative action and student loan debt to minority communities. Only 6% of doctors are people of color and studies have shown that people do better medically when the physician is of the same race. And Black women have the highest amount of student debt.
Black Americans are more upbeat but fear worsening racism The Washington Post poll found that most Black Americans think that the US economic system is stacked against them and most fear day to day discrimination and growing racism. Nevertheless, more Black people than when Trump was president feel that is a good time to be a Black person in America.
FBI Hired Firm That Labeled Black Lives Matter Organizers ” Threat Actors “ The FBI hired a firm called ZeroNet to follow the social media posts of BLM organizers. Some were deemed to be ” high severity ” physical threats. And guess what evidence they had. None. And when the FBI found out there was no evidence, guess what they did. They lied.
Wrongly imprisoned for 7 years, exonerated ” Central Park 5 ” member wins NYC City Council Primary Congratulations to Yusef Salaam who won the Democratic Party Primary for the Central Harlem seat. He is all but assured of winning in November because there are very few Republicans in Harlem and there most likely won’t be any opposition. An improbable feat for a political novice.

Migrant Workers Flee Florida as New Immigration Law Takes Effect Fascist DeSantis may be destroying his own economy. The 1.8 million immigrants in Florida, including those who are undocumented, represent 11% of the total labor force. But they make up 37% of the workforce in agriculture, 23% in construction and 14% in service jobs. Hope they all find good union jobs in other states.
U.S. opens new immigration path for Central Americans and Colombians to discourage border crossings Eligible migrants from Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras can now fly to the U.S. and seek work permits if they have relatives here who are U’S’ citizens or have legal status. Sounds good but how many migrants from those countries do you think can afford the air fare to fly in from Central America?
