Where’s the outrage after the Cavs ask for $28 million more in taxpayer money? It seems that the Cavs are the only Cleveland sports team that always seems to spend all of its Sin Tax revenue and then needs more taxpayer money for ” necessary maintenance.” The column also contains all of the taxpayer money that has been given to the Cleveland sports teams over the last decade. By the way, Dan Gilbert’s net worth is $18.2 billion.
The People’s Budget charter amendment and ballot initiative in Cleveland People’s Budget Cleveland is collecting signatures for a proposed charter amendment that would give residents a more direct say in how 2% of the budget is spent. In 2022 that would have been a little over $14 million. 5,907 valid signatures of Cleveland voters are needed by July 5 to put the issue on the November ballot.
Cleveland City Council approves $10 million for waterfront projects They are Irishtown Bend, expansion of an East Side fishing pier, Euclid Creek Greenway and the Northcoast Connector project which is the land bridge over the shoreway.connecting the downtown mall to the Browns stadium. Stay tuned for more tax dollars being spent on the lakefront.
Bay Village priest faces backlash after he discusses LGBTQ controversy during Sunday sermon Rev. Timothy W Gareau of St, Raphael parish did what many pastors have done. He gave an angry anti – LGBTQ sermon. What happened next is not so common. Much of the congregation erupted in anger at the sermon and many vowed never to return.

Ohio opens the door to applications for oil and gas drilling underneath state parks Under new rules that took effect last week oil and gas drillers will be able to nominate parcels of land for potential drilling to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Which in this case should be more accurately named the Ohio Department of Destruction of Natural Resources.
Sherrod Brown needs Trump supporters to get reelected to the Senate in 2024. Here’s how he might try to do it. It seems like the answer is to support policies Trump supports. In recent weeks he has supported the extension of Title 42, opposed the Biden administration’s plan to lift tariffs on solar panels and supported the same ” rail safety ” bill that Trump supports. And he knows that most of us will still vote for him because of what the alternative will be.
State Issue 1 backers aim to avoid abortion. What Republicans told lobbyists in a closed door fundraising pitch. ” You don’t say abortion. You don’t say 60%. You don’t bring up social issues that divide even Republicans. The focus will be on protecting the constitution from special interests ” said one of special interest lobbyists at the event. LOL!
Suddes: Ohio Lawmakers are not conservatives. They are power mongers at war with America Which is obvious to progressives. But Thomas Suddes is not a progressive. He has been a middle of the road reporter and columnist about statehouse politics for decades. And this is now his middle of the road view about what’s going on in Columbus.
Bipartisan Bill Would Legalize Marijuana in Ohio This may not be good news. Sensing that the ballot initiative is going to pass in November the General Assembly is suddenly interested in legalization so that they can do the regulating. On the other hand there is no guarantee that the ballot initiative will get enough valid signatures or will pass in November.

8 takeaways from the debt ceiling vote The Good: Economic catastrophe avoided and limits on defense spending. The Bad: The return of student loan payments and cuts to highway infrastructure programs. The Ugly: Cuts to the IRS enforcement of tax fraud and the streamlining of permits for the fossil fuel industry and The Ugliest: Work requirements for safety net programs
Supreme Court Limits E.P.A’s Power to Police Water Pollution And in doing so increases the power of polluting corporations to increase profits. Since the Founding Fathers never addressed pollution and an E.P.A. in the constitution, everything they do seems unconstitutional to this court. Or are they just protecting the profits of polluting corporations?
What Is the True Cost of U.S. Militarism? Argues two points. The harm our military often does to innocent civilians around the world as well as the harm done to our soldiers who are often traumatized in civilian life. And the good that could be done with the money being spent on militarism if the budget was cut to essentials and if profiteers were out of the picture.
RFK Jr. and the Populist Wave Argues that he has appeal to some progressives and some right wing populists. Kennedy believes that the real problem with Biden is not his age but that he functions in a system most Americans don’t trust. Which is true. Something to think about – he’s polling at about 20% which is far better than Bernie polled at this time in 2015 against another candidate from the same system that Americans don’t trust. And what almost happened then?
Minnesota joins alliance to elect president by popular vote, adding new momentum to campaign Currently states’ who total 205 electoral college votes have enacted state laws which would give all of their electoral college votes to the winner of the national popular vote. If states’ whose total is 65 electoral college votes do the same the electoral college would be eliminated.

New Cleveland Consent Decree Monitor Tells Council Trust Between Community and Police Will Enhance Public Safety Which everyone knows. We’re now eight years into the Consent Decree and 44 paragraph’s of the Consent Decree’s demands are still non – compliant. And how many Black people in Cleveland do you think believe that trust between the community and police has gotten better in the last eight years?
Three years after George Floyd’s murder, is America a better place? Have there been any more Black people harassed or killed by police in the last three years? Has the socioeconomic status of most Black people changed in the last three years? What do you think the answer to the question the article asks is?
Talk of Racism Proves Thorny for GOP Candidates of Color Part of Uncle Tom Tim Scott’s messaging is that he overcame bigotry and racism and anyone can do it if they try hard enough. His problem is that much of the Republican base he needs to win over are in fact bigots and racists. He’s really auditioning for vice – president where he might be able to deliver some Black votes.
Why Joe Biden’s struggle with Black voters still isn’t good news for Donald Trump The poll described in the article sums up the frustration that is a near constant for Black Americans: While rarely enthusiastic about the Democrats and what they do, they’re often brought to the brink of rage by what the Republicans do. But you have to wonder what Black voter turnout would be if they were enthusiastic about what the Democrats are doing.
Immigration
Asylum in Limbo Under the new Biden rules asylum seekers are barred from entering the U.S. unless they can prove that they sought asylum in another country first. Unfortunately that option is only available in a few countries. The effect is that most asylum seekers are now being turned away.
Trump vows to end birthright citizenship of children for immigrants in the U.S. illegally Which of course he cannot do because it would take a constitutional amendment. But it’s good red meat for his base, most of whom know nothing about the constitution. By the way, this article was found in the Entertainment section of Yahoo News.
‘ Invade Mexico ‘ moves from fringe MAGA plan to GOP party plank All six of the announced Republican candidates support military air strikes on the Mexican drug cartels and of course building a wall to keep out all immigrants. This includes the ” moderate ” Republican candidate Uncle Tom Tim Scott. Maybe they should resurrect the Manifest Destiny platform the United States used to justify the Invasion of Mexico in 1848.
How legal immigration might solve two of America’s toughest problems Immigration policy is designed to keep people out. Meanwhile there is a crisis in the labor market where there are nearly 10 million open jobs. And most of the migrants seeking asylum would be more than willing to help shrink that number.
