Lakefront Project Plans Come Into Focus as North Coast Master Plan Team Completes Second Listening Tour One has to wonder if these listening tours are really to get our input or to provide the illusion that citizens have input. Wouldn’t it be great to have a separate listening tour to get citizen input on how much of their tax dollars should be used to subsidize private sector developers.
Cleveland Browns talk about community investments As the Browns head into talks with the city about renovations there has been some scrutiny about what they invest in the community. Last week they proudly announced that they have given $20,000 to youth football programs. Quarterback Deshaun Watson’s annual salary is $45 million. LOL!
Census Data Shows Diverging Population Trends in Cleveland Neighborhoods With Some Adding Housing Units But Losing Residents Since 2010 the population of downtown Cleveland increased by 41%, Overall the population of Cleveland decreased since the 2010 census. These population shifts and the drop from 17 to 15 Ward’s before the 2025 election should make the Cleveland redistricting process very interesting next year.
Heroes work at the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services The media has frequently documented the structural deficiencies within the DCFS. However this is a great piece about the commitment and dedication of the workers who deal with traumatized children and families who are in need of help.
Cleveland Will Use $2 million to Pay Overdue Utility Bills for Some Residents Again a special thanks to Cleveland City Council for making very good use of ARPA funding. The residents who are eligible are people who fell behind during COVID shutdowns but have made an effort to come up with a payment plan to reduce their debt.
State
Opponents file lawsuit to block 60% constitutional amendment proposal, say GOP lawmakers illegally set August election Current state law only permits elections for proposed constitutional amendments in March, May or November. And they didn’t repeal or alter that law. Unfortunately the Republican controlled Ohio Supreme Court will hear the case. But at least some hope!
Ohio Abortion Foes are Banking on a Low – Turnout August Election. In Kansas, That Didn’t Go So Well And Kansas is even more conservative than Ohio is. The numerous Ohioans who are actively working to gather signatures right now for the abortion access constitutional amendment aren’t going to skip the August election. And there are more of us than there are Right – to – Life lunatics.
Ohio’s Gender Wage Gap: Women Earn 79 Cents for Every Dollar a Man Earns The structural inequities that exist in most American workplaces that create the huge wage gap have been known about for years. And yet nothing significant has been done to change it
Worse than his leadership timidity, DeWine has enabled the GOP radical fringe It is important to remember that everything the lunatic legislature passes has to be signed by DeWine to become law. Remember three years ago at this time when many of us were praising him for his handling of COVID. And then suddenly Amy Acton was fired.
Ohio Health Disparities Weigh Down Progress After 10 years of compiling data, the Health Policy Institute of Ohio has concluded that ” it is clear that Ohioans continue to live less healthy lives and spend more on health care than people in most other states.”

Biden ‘ Considering ‘ Using 14th Amendment To End Debt Ceiling Standoff Without Congressional Action A clause in the 1868 amendment states ” the validity of the public debt… shall not be questioned.” White House lawyers are reportedly reviewing the clause to see if the entire concept of a debt limit is unconstitutional. Go for it Joe!
Trump has been found liable for sexual abuse, Will it change anything? The sad truth is probably not. Up until 2016 this type of thing would have made any candidate seeking any office unelectable. But then the Access Hollywood tape showed the true character of the Republicans who supported Trump anyways.
Trump’s CNN Town Hall Was a MAGA Rally It has been generally considered that MSNBC is a progressive news media outlet and that Fox News is for right – wing lunatics. Until recently CNN had been considered a centrist media outlet. CNN’s ratings have been plummeting because there are now fewer centrist’s. Unfortunately CNN is now catering to the MAGA crowd to try to boost their ratings. Very sad.
Not only does the public child care program in Quebec pay for itself, it actually generates more revenue. Because of the child care program there are more women in the workforce paying income tax and families have more money to spend which generates increased sales tax revenue.
The current record for global temperature occurred in 2016 and it’s no coincidence that it followed the last big El Nino. We are now seven years later into climate change with nothing significant being done to stop global warming so a new record is a certainty.
Black Lives Matter
‘ Nothing Changed ‘: Buffalo’s East Side still struggling a year after shooting Residents say that once the cameras left, so did the potential for investment in the community. Gun violence, underfunded schools, a lack of grocery options, poor transportation and joblessness remain.
Army sergeant who killed a Black Lives Matter protester in Texas sentenced to 25 years in prison The killer drove his car into a crowd of BLM protesters, pulled out his gun and killed one of them and then claimed self defense. But this may not be over. The Texas Board of Paroles and Pardons may recommend a pardon and surely Gov. Greg Abbot would do it.
Black Lives Matter activists call for accountability in Irvo Otieno’s death Otieno’s preliminary cause of death was positional and mechanical asphyxia with restraints. He was also punched by officers in his side and torso and pepper sprayed while he sat in his jail cell in Henrico County Virginia
Imagine an American History course being taught without mentioning racism. Do you skip slavery entirely? Do you not mention that all of the slaves just happened to be Black people? And if you can’t mention social justice you certainly couldn’t teach the Civil Rights movement.
Immigration
As the border heats up, Dems fracture over a migration solution Immigration once unified Senate Democrats. Now it sharply divides them. Sherrod Brown wants to extend Title 42 for two more years which coincidentally will be past his re – election campaign, Progressives are furious.
Biden Will Never Get Us Out of the Trump Era Like This Suggests that Biden is clueless about what the article above describes. As Title 42 ends, Biden’s compromise on asylum will entrench one of Trump’s worst legacies by turning away many legitimate asylum seekers and returning them to persecution from the country they fled.
In Migrant Camps, Anxiety and Relief: ‘It Was Worth It. We Are In America.’ Describes the horrible conditions in the numerous camps that have sprung up along the border. It also describes the optimism of the families that are in them. How sad it must be for those who get turned away because they can’t prove a credible threat to seek asylum.
Argues that if all physical and legal barriers to enter the country were lifted the market would find the appropriate mix of workers to fill available jobs. And if immigrants were able to easily change employers they would be less likely to have low paying jobs.
In early September of 2001 President George W. Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox were very close to a comprehensive agreement that would have easily passed Congress. But after the terrorist attack on 9 / 11 attitudes towards immigration changed for the worse.
