Cleveland Browns leaving Cleveland for Brook Park, mayor announces The wind has been blowing in this direction for months but now we know for sure. This may be great news for the taxpayers of Cleveland since the city won’t be giving up hundreds of millions of dollars for renovations and can instead put that money into better city services. Also the land where the current stadium, if developed properly, could yield more revenue than the Browns bring in 10 times a year.

East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King indicted, prosecutors say businesses connected to the mayor received public dollars This scandal after scandal pattern in financially strapped East Cleveland has to stop. King is the third East Cleveland mayor in the last 20 years to face charges. The allegations stretch from 2018 to 2024. And the County Prosecutor is going to recommend he be removed from office. A special thanks to East Cleveland City Councilwoman and CCPC member Patricia Blochowiak who has been sounding the alarm about King for years.

Five years in, Cleveland’s much touted lead safe law has failed to reduce child lead poisoning Instead, child lead poisoning cases in Cleveland have actually increased since 2022, according to data the city released last week. Few landlords have complied with the law and even fewer have re – upped their lead safe certification. And the more than $100 million that was intended to make properties safer has been slow to get into the hands of those who need it. WTF!

Late Push for CMSD Levy Raising Awareness Before November Vote Proponents of Issue 49 have spent the last month canvassing, deploying billboards and running spots. In recent weeks ads have been airing featuring Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and Cleveland Guardians star Steven Kwan. If the levy passes in November it will give the Cleveland Municipal School District $52 million a year in badly needed revenue. The cost would be between $200 and $300 for the medium homeowner in Cleveland.

State

Both Sides Criticize Current Redistricting System During Ohio Issue 1 Forum And of course the opponents of Issue 1 lied. The biggest lie was claiming that if Issue 1 passed it would make the redistricting process worse. Really? How could it possibly be worse than it already is? The second biggest lie would be that the citizens redistricting commission would be unaccountable to the citizens of Ohio. And just how accountable are the Republicans who control the process now?

Split Ohio Supreme Court turns down lawsuit challenging new dropbox restrictions Once again the Republicans who control the Ohio Supreme Court do the bidding of its political party. In a 4-3 decision along party lines, the court sidestepped the question of whether the directive by Fascist Frank LaRose violates state law and instead ruled that the challenge came too late. This ruling also underscores the need to elect the three Democrat’s in November.

First Energy Gave Heavily to Trump and Trump Worked for a Federal Bailout As it sought a massive, corrupt bailout in Ohio, First Energy was also spending lavishly on Trump aligned dark money groups and at hotels and a golf course owned by the former president, a new report said last week. In return Trump and his aids were attempting to provide a federal bailout for the coal and nuclear plants. Thankfully the federal bailout never happened.

Number of domestic violence deaths inches up in Ohio, including 15 children The Ohio Domestic Violence Network says at least 114 people, 56% of them women, died in domestic violence incidents last year. The total includes 79 victims and 35 attackers. Sixty – four were women, 50 were men. Two – thirds of the victims were killed by guns. Five of the women were pregnant. Fully funded comprehensive services that reach people when they need them are needed to lower these numbers.

National

US suggests military aid to Israel is at risk in letter demanding more aid The Biden administration sent a letter to the Israeli government demanding it act to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza within the next 30 days or risk violating US laws governing foreign military assistance, suggesting US military aid could be in jeopardy. For years military aid to Israel has violated US law, so why send this letter now? Conveniently the 30 day deadline is past the election so maybe this is just a campaign move to help Kamala Harris.

Trump is in a better polling spot now that he was against Clinton or Biden If polls are any guide, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is in better shape now than he was at this time in 2020 and his winning white house campaign of 2016. At this time in 2016 Hillary Clinton was leading Trump by an average of 5.8% in the polls. And at this time in 2020 Joe Biden was leading Trump by an average of 10% in the polls. The average now shows Kamala Harris up by 1.9% This is very alarming.

Harris weighed where to put more distance between her and Biden It is important to remember that Biden was a near certain loser until he got out of the race. It is also important to remember that although Harris leads in the national polls, the battleground states are still neck and neck. And polling has consistently shown that Biden is a drag on Harris’ candidacy and that voters are eager for a new direction. So considering what is at stake, some policy distancing from Biden is imperative.

Petitions for union representation doubled under Biden’s presidency, first increase since 1970’s The statistics cited in this article were released last week by the National Labor Relations Board. There were 3,286 petitions filed with the government last year, up from 1,638 filed in 2021. This marks the first increase in unionization petitions since the Gerald Ford administration ended 48 years ago. During Trump’s presidency, union petitions declined 22%

Black Lives Matter

Negotiations have stalled between Metrohealth fired CEO Airica Steed, attorney says Steed , who is Black, was fired by Metrohealth’s Board of Trustees in August. A summary of Steed’s performance evaluation provided by Metrohealth in August said Steed met or exceeded expectations for mission strategy, quality, safety and experience, financial management and community and external relations. So one has to wonder why she was fired if it had nothing to do with performance.

Harris maintains strong lead among Black swing – state voters in a new poll Vice President Kamala Harris still has a wide lead over former President Donald Trump among Black voters in battleground states, according to a new poll, which shows a key slice of undecided Black voters still poised to make a decision about the presidential election. The battleground states polled include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Kamala Harris’ New Economic Agenda Reveals What She Would Do To Help Black Men Harris’ opportunity agenda for Black men includes a laundry list of policy proposals. Highlights include providing a million loans to Black entrepreneurs to start businesses, investing in Black mentorship and training programs and launching a health equity initiative focusing on diseases that disproportionately affect Black men. But are these just campaign promises or will she walk the walk if elected.

Cost access still barriers to medical care for Black Ohio women Based on data collected between January and June of this year from more than 500 Black women in Ohio, a study found that 47.7% of women surveyed ” reported feeling discriminated against based on race,” and 40% of participants ” had concerns about finding a medical provider that their family felt comfortable visiting.” A glaring example of health care disparities that exist for people of color.
Immigration

Kamala Harris and the problem with ceding the argument Repeatedly a pattern has emerged with the Harris campaign on the issue of immigration. When given the opportunity to defend immigrants and their contribution to our country she always pivots to the bipartisan border bill Biden proposed earlier this year that Trump helped tank, The problem with this strategy is that to the uninformed voter she is validating all of Trump’s xenophobic comments and lies.

The return of family separation: Trump wants to deport the parents of American – born kids Any mass deportation campaign of the kind Donald Trump and JD Vance envision would focus on expediency, trampling on the few rights noncitizens have. It would strip the ability to have a judge decide on their removal. But it would also ignore the fundamental rights of American – born children. There are about 16.7 million mixed – status families currently living in the United States.

Three Ways the Media Introduces Bias to the Immigration Debate Number One: The millions of dollars that have been funneled into political ads based on fear mongering about the border. Number Two: The media almost always pairs immigration news with chaotic images from the border, regardless of the connection. Number three: The news cycle is hyper – focused on the border, often overlooking the more positive stories about immigration.

Data shows migrants aren’t taking jobs from Black or Hispanic people, despite what Trump says. Government data shows that immigrant labor contributes to economic growth and provides for promotional opportunities for native born workers. And a mass deportation would cost U.S. taxpayers up to a trillion dollars and would cause the cost of living, including food and housing to skyrocket. But of course facts and data do not matter to Trump and the MAGA movement.
